Brazilian Entrepreneurs seek partnership in the United States

TAMPA, Florida - January 16, 2008 (BRAZLIAN CHAMBER BUSINESS WIRE) -- For the first time a Brazilian franchising commission, directed by the ABF – Associacao Brasileira de Franchising (Brazilian Franchising Association) will be a part of the 48th IFA – International Franchise Association Annual Convention that takes place in Orlando, FL from the 9th through the 12th this upcoming February.

The main objective of this initiative is to strengthen the union between the United States and Brazil in the franchising sector which was initiated a year ago between the Development Ministry and the commerce industry in Brazil along with The Commerce Department in the U.S., under the leadership of Ana Guevara, deputy assistant secretary of services.

Among the industries that will be participating are: Showcolate (chocolate business), Global Franchise (consulting agency which represents several brands including the chain Sapataria do Futuro  (Future shoe repair service), Livraria Nobel (bookstore), Bob’s (Brazilian’s biggest fast food chain), Wizard (language learning centers) and Flytour (traveling agencies).

The participation of the above Brazilian businesses is another initiative supported by the Brazil-Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce and the union between ABF and APEX Brasil (Brazilian Promotion, Export and Investments agency). This agreement promotes the internationalization of Brazilian franchises. There are currently approximately 48 Brazilian franchises which are functioning internationally.

Brazilian franchising is a 25 billion dollar industry with over 1100 brands. It occupies the 4th place in the World Franchise Council just below China, U.S and Japan.

ABF’s executive director, Ricargo Camargo explains that Brazilian businesses expect to find investors who decide to expand their brands in the U.S.  Camargo stated:  “In Florida particularly, we seek for Brazilian residents in the U.S. who are already familiar with Brazilian brands and services and who want to gamble on the success of these brands in the American territory.”
